Take a walk around Santa Fe with Richard Anderson and you’ll find yourself seeing the town in a new way. As an architect, he has the requisite appreciation for the beauty of the Southwestern Pueblo and Territorial styles. But it’s his sharp eye for the variety of unique elements in those styles that make the experience so illuminating. It might be the way in which he points out the fan of light created by a simple sconce lamp or the varying textures revealed by the sun’s movement across a stucco wall. Years of experience in his field have given Richard an exceptional ability to envision common things in uncommon ways. That unique perspective extends to every aspect of his lifeespecially his relationships with people.
A Creative Eye
Born in Galveston and raised on the Central Texas Coast, at the age of 5 Richard knew that someday he would be either an architect or a fireman. With a natural curiosity about the structures of things, he earned an architectural degree from the University of Houston. Richard then embarked on a long and successful career, most notably as a Project Manager with Gensler, one of the world’s leading architectural and design firms. During his 21-year tenure with Gensler he received awards for design excellence for his work in commercial interiors for companies as varied as Cox Communications, Amtrak, Verizon and the Bank of Nova Scotia. But it was in his people skills that Richard truly shonewhether he was leading others through a major project or negotiating the development of one, everyone with whom Richard worked commented on his ability to envision the value in every person and build solid, lasting relationships.
A Change of Pace
As much as Richard thrived in the fast-paced world of commercial architecture, after 28 years in the field, he yearned to experience the world in a different way. When his partner’s retirement brought the two of them back to the Southwest, Santa Fe was a natural choice. As a resident of Eldorado, Richard is a member of the Board of Directors of the Eldorado Community Improvement Association and is active in a variety of capacities, from volunteering for the developing Senior Center and serving as a sponsor for the Eldorado Artists’ Tour to advising owners on aesthetic improvements in commercial areas.
A New Vision
While Richard enjoys using his skills and expertise to contribute to the community, it’s in his career as a real estate professional that his visionary perspective has the greatest impact. With his solid background in architectural design he’s able to advise buyers and sellers alike on the potential for their properties, whether it’s reconfiguring the interiors to make optimal use of space in a newly purchased home or effectively staging a property for a quick sale at a maximum return.
